Compensation The MTS Assistant Director position is a part-time hourly role that offers a rate of $30/hour and approximately 200 hours per season.

Job Description

The Assistant Director of the MTS program is responsible for providing compositional/lyrical and
educational guidance to Songwriting students as they write works for the program and is the liaison
between student participants and the administration. The Assistant Director will work directly with the
program’s Artistic Director and the Director of Artistic Planning.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the recruitment process
• Participate in the applicants’ interview/audition process with Program Director
• Catalogue statistics about program participants
• Attend and assist teaching weekly sessions (most Wednesdays from around 4:30-7:30pm)
• Maintain regular contact, including reminders of upcoming sessions and upcoming due or late
assignments, with program participants via phone and e-mail
• Responding to parent and student email inquiries
• Maintain an attendance record of all students, in addition to notifying Director of planned absences
• Attend all sessions, tutorials, readings, rehearsals and concerts of the MTS Program

WEEKLY SEMINAR DUTIES
• Discuss and prepare seminar themes, repertoire, and guests with Artistic Director.
• Provide guidance for students’ in-progress works (additional support to any students in areas such
as notation, additional rewrites, etc, on a case-by-case basis)
• Order scores and recordings as necessary, compile into score packet with Director prior to course
start date
• Take attendance at sessions and inform Director of ongoing behavior/attendance issues
• Teach students in seminars in conjunction with the Artistic Director and/or when the Artistic
Director is absent
• Keep track of program-related expenses and submit receipts to Administrative Staff
• Send guests their W9 paperwork/send guest paperwork along to Director of Artistic Planning, and
tracking guest payments in a spreadsheet (will need to be created and shared with the Artistic Director
and Administrative Staff)
• Ensure that guests/performers are paid by picking up checks from NYYS office before readings and
sessions
• Create shared spreadsheets for artistic staff, partnering orgs, and NYYS that tracks song info and
materials, and performer assignments
• Post seminar reminders, assignments, changes to syllabus and schedule on web site at designated
time after approved by Director of Artistic Planning
• Notify Director of Artistic Planning and Artistic Director of attendance or other personnel issues
• Uphold guidelines detailed in Membership Handbook
• Be familiar with organizational emergency policies

CONCERT DUTIES
• Coordinate rehearsal schedules and performers for performances with other Program Directors and
artistic staff
• Manage concert operations including stage set up, lighting, instrument rentals for final
performances
• Supply information to Administration for final concert program

QUALIFICATIONS
• Highly proactive individual with strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills
• Former or current participant of a musical theater writing program (NYU, BMI, etc.) preffered
• At least 2 years of teaching experience
• Experience producing concerts (self-producing is fine)
• Proficiency in Finale and/or Sibelius preferred
