Yu Okuda
Programming Intern
Yu Okuda is a Tokyo-based composer, arranger, music director, bandleader, and pianist who mainly composes for theatre. She is the founder and president of Musical Theatre Writers Japan and is currently undergoing a one-year internship at Maestra. She was selcted as a fellow for the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists 2023 by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, and for the U.S.-Japan Creative Artists Fellowship Program 2023 by the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission. Some of her composer credits include: AVIDYA: NO LIGHTS INN (winner of the Japan Cultural Affairs Agency Arts Festival Excellence Award in 2016), commissioned by Niwa Gekidan Penino, and WATARU’S INNOCENT MARRIAGE HUNTING: THE MUSICAL, commissioned by Umeda Arts Theater Co., Ltd.Her shows have been performed in Japan, Germany, the US, Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, and France.
