Casey Berner

Director of Development

Casey Berner is a Brooklyn-based theatre administrator, artist, and scholar. She currently serves as the Development Director of Maestra Music, following two years in development and marketing at the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia. She is also a PhD candidate at the Graduate Center, CUNY and teaches Theatre at Brooklyn College and Business Communication at Baruch College. Her research focuses on commercial musical theatre, especially musicals with short runs. Casey’s artistic practice includes stage management, dramaturgy, and costume construction and she has worked professionally throughout Philadelphia. Favorite productions include: Lagan (Villanova), Romeo and Juliet (Commonwealth Classic), Ganymede 5 and Serial Opera (ENAensemble), Crooked Shadows (United Solo), and Krapp’s Last Tape (independently produced). Casey has presented at the American Society for Theatre Research Conference, Song, Stage, and Screen (International Society for the Study of Musicals) conference, National Communication Association Conference, Philadelphia Theatre Research Symposium, and Kenneth Burke Society Triennial Conference, and was published in Episodes. Upcoming publications include a contributed chapter (co-written with Emma Loerick) to Casting the Art of Rhetoric with Theatre and Drama and a review in Theatre Research International. She holds an MA in Theatre with a certificate in Nonprofit Management and a BA with Honors in Communication and English from Villanova University. Proud member of PSC-CUNY/AFT Local 2334.
