Gun & Powder
Synopsis
Gun & Powder is a new musical inspired by the true story of Mary and Martha Clarke—African American twins—who pass for White to help settle their mother’s sharecropper debt and seize the funds by any means necessary. However, their bond of sisterhood is tested when they fall in love with two very different men.
Developmental History + Awards
Gun & Powder had its world premiere production at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia in January of 2020. It is a recipient of the 2018 Richard Rodgers Award and was selected for the 2018 NAMT Festival of New Musicals. It has been developed at Goodspeed Musicals, the NEXT Festival at Theatre Latté Da, the SigWorks Lab at the Signature Theatre and was the inaugural workshop production of the NYU Tisch Center for New Musicals. Gun & Powder was conceived in the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.
