Biography

Zilu is a composer originally from China with an MM degree in Music Composition: Screen Scoring at New York University. She was trained in traditional Chinese zither(Guzheng) since the age of 6 and later studied Western music curriculum during undergraduate study at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Her principal teachers in the past were Sean Friar, Michael Patterson, Paul Chihara, Sha Lijing(Guzheng), and Huang Yutong(Guzheng).

She is currently studying with Dr.Benjamin C.S Boyle, whom she has followed since 2022, studying keyboard harmony, counterpoint, and analysis in the method of Nadia Boulanger.

Besides Music Composition, she has also found her interest in Music technology, which led to a working experience as a Full-time Game Audio Programmer in Netease Game after her graduate study. She is also an enthusiastic dancer with a strong interest in Hip-hop, urban and contemporary dances.

In 2022, She left Netease Game and founded Shiro Sound Lab, which is a company focused on exploring and experimenting with new ways for technology to serve the artistic goal.

She is currently based in Shenzhen and travels around for different projects. Her works are now focused on composing/designing music/sound for theatre and films.
