Sarah Richardson
Biography
Sarah is a Métis musical director/arranger/performer located in Halifax, NS.
Sarah has been studying music since the age of five with the Royal Conservatory of Music. She began with piano, followed by voice, flute, and viola, while recently picking up bass and accordion as well. As well as a performer, she has been a musical director and arranger for over 20 years, in both Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Sarah won a Merritt Award for Outstanding Musical Direction of Chester Playhouse’s production of “Ruthless: The Stage Mother of All Musicals”, as well as nominations for HEIST’s “New Waterford Boy”, and Neptune Theatre’s “Alice in Pantoland”. She also received a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Lucille Renaud in Neptune Theatre and b current’s co-production of “Controlled Damage: the Viola Desmond Story”.
Sarah is a founding member of Whale Song Theatre. She was also a member of the inaugural year of Neptune Theatre’s “Chrysalis Project”, acting as Assistant Musical Director on “Shakespeare in Love” as well as the Canadian premiere of “The Color Purple”.
Since then, she has been Musical Director and Arranger for both “Alice in Pantoland” and “Rumour has It: the songbook of Adele”, Musical Director for “Elf: the Musical”, Assistant Musical Director for “Peter Pan”, vocal coach and pianist on “Calendar Girls”, and has played in various productions’ pit bands.
As well, she is an educator within Neptune, musically directing both “Les Misérables: School Edition” and the Canadian premiere of “My Side of the Country”.
Sarah is also a part of the powerhouse vocal trio, “DivaStation”, and the lead singer of “the Blackrats”.
Past credits include Neptune Theatre, Whale Song Theatre, Chester Playhouse, HEIST, Liverpool International Theatre Festival, DramaFest, Dartmouth Players, and Halifax Feast Dinner Theatre.
