Biography

Sara Wordsworth is an award-winning theatrical writer and creator with credits on Broadway, television, recordings, tours, and concerts, as well as in arenas, theaters, cruise ships, and theme parks around the world.

She is the co-writer and creator of In Transit, Broadway’s first a cappella musical, and co-producer of the In Transit Original Broadway Cast Recording (Hollywood Records).

Alongside developing new work, Sara has a passion for giving voice and musical identity to beloved intellectual properties, characters, and film-to-stage adaptations. As a Senior Show Writer for Disney Live Entertainment, she has written countless shows and entertainment experiences for Disney audiences worldwide, including large-scale stage adaptations of Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Aladdin, and Hercules. Sara also penned Frozen JR. and Frozen KIDS—adaptations of the Broadway musical Frozen for young performers—and is currently developing a musical stage adaptation of Zootopia for Disney Theatrical.

Other favorite credits include collaborating with the jam band Phish on Gamehendge Live at Madison Square Garden; Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile: The Musical (TYA & JR.; Pasadena Playhouse, iTheatrics); The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Musical (U.S. Tour); songs for the animated film Elf Pets: Santa’s Reindeer Rescue (Netflix); the viral music video The Elf on the Shelf’s Night Before Christmas (with more than 45 million YouTube views); Off-Broadway’s Dory Fantasmagory; and the published musicals Dear Albert Einstein (NYCCT) and High School Confidential (Off-Broadway; Dramatic Publishing).

Her awards include the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award; two IAAPA Brass Ring Awards for Best Theatrical Production Worldwide and Most Creative Spectacle; and the BMI Harrington Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Musical Theatre (Librettist). Sara has also received nominations from the Drama Desk Awards, Drama League Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, Off Broadway Alliance Awards, and Lucille Lortel Awards, and was honored with the New York City Children’s Theater Family of Artists Award.

Sara has also developed treatments, songs, and content for various regional theaters, performing arts organizations, educational institutions, recordings, publications, and charities, and has served as a creative consultant for major entertainment organizations worldwide. Her artist residencies include the Eugene O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference, the University of Oklahoma, and CAP21.

She serves on the Steering Committee and as an instructor for the Tony-honored BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop and is a proud member of The Dramatists Guild of America, Inc., and Actors’ Equity Association.

Sara lives in New York City with her beloved husband and daughter.
