Biography
Samuel Macdonald is a Musical Director, Composer, and Lyricist currently based in Glasgow, Scotland. They hold a BA in Music from the University of Cambridge and recently graduated with an MA in Musical Directing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, during which they MD'd "Edges" at the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as numerous Cabarets and Showcases for both Masters and Bachelors performers. They also composed and produced music for the BA actors' production of Chris Bush's "Faustus: That Damned Woman."
Samuel has had an interest in new musical theatre since MDing an award-winning run of "Rust", a new musical by Helena Fox and Geraint Owen, at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe. Later that year they composed music for the Cambridge Footlights Pantomime, and their own chamber opera "Jonah on the Hill". They regularly travel to London to attend workshops with BOOK Music & Lyrics, where they are a member of the first-year lyricist group.
For the past year, they have been writing music and lyrics with bookwriter Mairead Dunsmore, with plans to produce a two-hander "The Perfect Match" at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024.
