Sage Snider

Biography

I'm a performer, singer-songwriter, fiddler, flatfooter, and playwright. My primary skill is violin, and I've performed genres ranging from classical to bluegrass, rock, pop, pirate, and beyond. I also love learning about and sharing the history behind my music. After specializing in the history of Ancient Greek Music as an undergraduate at Yale University, I went on to study American Music in the Public Humanities Master’s Program at Brown. My music and history work have been featured by the Smithsonian, The Yale University Art Gallery, a Rhode Island vocational high school (through the year-long support of a Rhode Island State Council for the Arts’ grant), Smugglers’ Notch Ski Resort, and the 2014 and 2015 Brown University Folk Festival. I also wrote and performed an autobiographical solo show at Brown University called Fiddlers' Dream and performed for 4 years with the pirate band "Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers."

I also served as the Director of Cultural Engagement for the non-profit Braver Angels and continue to support their creative programming as an advisor (you can read about my work in Forbes and the music team’s latest work in the NY Times). My Braver Angels performances include creating and touring an original show throughout the East Coast, leading in an original theatrical production about the meaning of Gettysburg to an increasingly divided America, and organizing and performing in various convention concerts (where I most recently performed with Gangstagrass).

After 7 years in Nashville, I have just moved to Washington, D.C., where I am looking for new musical partners. I am especially looking to work with people interested in creating and performing pirate music.
