Sabrina Chap

Biography

Sabrina Chap is a multifaceted artist, renowned as a singer-songwriter, composer, writer, and performer. As a queer and first-generation individual, she champions the power of storytelling as a source of strength and resilience.

Called, 'Rousing!' by the New Yorker - Chap's journey into songwriting began with a focus on burlesque shows, where her compositions quickly became the backdrop for burlesque acts performed around the globe. She has graced the stages of numerous underground cabaret venues in New York City, including the Slipper Room, Club Cumming, Pangea, and the Duplex. She's helmed 8 international tours and received 5-stars for her original cabaret show, 'How to be a Bad Girl' at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

She has produced 5 cds. Her most recent album, 'Postcards from the Rearview Mirror' is a radio musical that was called, "...a powerful examination of lust, obsession, and the queer coming-of-age experience" by Ms. Magazine.
Her first musical, 'Fashion Academy: the Musical' was commissioned and produced by Vital Theatre in NY, and has been performed internationally after being licensed by Concorde Theatricals.

Known as downtown's go-to person for vaudevillian specialty songs, Chap has received commissions from esteemed acts such as the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, the shadow puppet show Midnight Radio Show, Cowboy Angelo Iodice, Cleveland's Pinch and Squeal, and juggler Rob Lok. Proudly affiliated with ASCAP, Chap continues to push artistic boundaries while nurturing a vibrant community of performers.

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Chap is deeply committed to creating and fostering communities that elevate marginalized experiences. Whether touring as a speaker on mental health and the arts or spearheading alternative protest movements for Black Lives Matter, Chap remains dedicated to amplifying activist voices and effecting meaningful change.
