Biography
Natalie Brown is a storyteller. Through music, theatre, and research, she seeks to amplify voices historically excluded from western narratives and use the arts as a means for social change.
As a theatre writer, Natalie’s shows include: FOR COLORED GIRLS, a new opera adapted from the Ntozake Shange play; LITTLE WHITE LIES, an original musical; FINDING EDEN, a musical co-written with Tyler King; and multiple short plays. Natalie was a finalist for the Write Out Loud Contest and Rave Theater Festival, and she’s studied under instructors including Jeanine Tesori, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, and Lisa Kron.
As a composer and musician, Natalie works within the worlds of theatrical, contemporary, and classical music. As an independent singer-songwriter, Natalie writes and performs her own music, available to stream on all platforms. She also regularly scores for theatrical productions and digital media. Natalie’s work has been performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the New York City Center, 54 Below, and Yale University.
Natalie graduated from Yale University in May 2025 with a double major in Music and African-American Studies. At Yale, she was a Mellon Mays/Edward A. Bouchet Fellow and was honored with awards including the Swensen Scholarship in the Arts, the Abraham Beekman Cox Prize, and the Michael Manzella Award.
Raised in Houston, TX, Natalie is now based in Brooklyn, NY.
