Monica Re Martin
A true native New Yorker with exceptional and versatile talents, Monica Re Martin exemplifies the ideal freelance musician in today’s world. As a highly sought-after violinist and violist, she has performed on stages internationally with numerous top-tier artists and groups.
Ms. Martin performs regularly with several orchestras around the country, including the New York City Ballet, Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra of New York, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared on Broadway in the Phantom of the Opera, as well as Notre-Dame de Paris, the international musical spectacular, for its 2022 New York run. Ms. Martin has had the pleasure of performing in sold out concerts at major halls and arenas with Andrea Bocelli, Kygo, Kristin Chenoweth, David Foster, Thorgy Thor, and Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks to name a few. She can also be heard playing violin and viola on albums by Victor Gould, Gabriel Garzón-Montano, and the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic.
Along with her active performance schedule, Ms. Martin is a passionate educator, making string learning fun for hundreds of students of all ages in various settings throughout her career. She has previously held teaching artist positions with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the InterSchool Orchestras of New York, and French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts.
Ms. Martin’s bespoke string arrangements have also made her an in-demand and respected resource for event companies and organizations. Her keen ear, deep understanding of diverse musical styles, and invaluable knowledge of what fits a string player’s hand best at all levels of technical ability set her arrangements apart from the pack. Besides her custom commissions, you can find some of her work published on Sheet Music Plus.
Her most recent personal project is taking her musical talents on roller skates. Using her childhood training as a figure skater, Ms. Martin is able to play the violin while skating on either ice or road. Stay tuned, because this is shaping up to be one of her greatest acts yet!
Ms. Martin holds a B.M. in Violin Performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music at CUNY Queens College, where she studied with Daniel Phillips. When she's not rocking out on electric, she has the honor to perform on a cherished family heirloom - her grandfather's violin.
