Biography

Miriam Kook is a composer, lyricist, playwright, music director, pianist, audition accompanist, and actor based in Columbia, Maryland. She has written the libretto and music for two full-length musical plays (one about the prophet Samuel from the Old Testament and one semi-autobiographical musical about losing her musical father to an early heart attack. That play is called "Joy Comes in the Mourning.") She composed the music for playwright Steffi Rubin's "My Other Mother," a play about adoption and the search for birth family which was performed as staged readings twice in the D.C. area. She music directed and contributed music to playwright Ben Kintisch's "Life Review, the Hospice Musical," for its staged reading in the Baltimore area. She has music directed, conducted, and accompanied in community theaters and for high schools in New York City, Maryland, Israel, and Egypt. Music direction credits include “West Side Story,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Chicago,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Hairspray,” "Godspell," “Lion King,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
