Melissa Tong
Biography
Multifaceted musician Melissa Tong is quickly gaining a reputation for her finesse and versatility, performing everywhere from Boston Symphony Hall with Savion Glover to Lincoln Center to one of the last remaining juke joints in Mississippi. Recent performances have taken Ms. Tong throughout the U.S. and Canada with Five for Fighting, with Riley Etheridge, Jr. opening for the late Leon Russell, on the airwaves with pop singer Sara Bareilles, and on Broadway as a company member of “Ain’t Too Proud: the Life and Times of the Temptations.” Melissa is also a dedicated educator, maintaining a full private teaching studio.
Melissa resides in Manhattan, where she happily feeds her addictions to coffee, yoga, and Acroyoga. During quarantine, in addition to working on recording projects from home, Melissa made Covid lemonade by finally doing her first 200 hour yoga teacher training program with two of her longtime mentors, followed by two more TT programs, and is currently teaching a beginners yoga class every Sunday by donation, with donations going toward a different social justice and arts organization each week.
