Meagan Prewitt

Biography

I began playing both piano and woodwind instruments at a young age. I was an oboist with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association in Colorado Springs, CO, for eight years performing at many local, national, and international venues, most notably with that group, Japan, where our ensemble performed throughout the country. I have performed in many musical pit orchestra's during high school and college including Les Miserables, Oklahoma, The Little Mermaid, Fiddler on the Roof, The Secret Garden, and Jesus Christ Superstar. With a passion for music performance, I graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University's esteemed music school, Blair School of Music, where I studied with Jared Hauser and performed regularly as an oboist in orchestras, wind symphonies, and chamber ensembles. I was selected to study in Aix-en-Provence, France, toured and performed with a select group of students in the country of Colombia, performed with an elite small body of students at the Chicago International Music Festival and have studied at festivals in New York (Mostly Modern Festival) and Maryland (National Music Festival). I was also invited to participate in the College Light Opera Company. Additionally, I have performed with opera companies and churches both in orchestras and as soloist for special events. I received my Masters of Music degree at the the Eastman School of Music with Richard Killmer, where I continued to freelance around Rochester and the upper state New York area. I also taught lessons and started a reed selling business. After graduating, I enlisted in the United States Army and joined the United States Army Europe and Africa Band and Chorus. I am currently stationed in Germany with the band and act as the concertmaster, oboist in the woodwind quintet, and librarian. We tour around Europe and Africa in large and small groups for outreach and I have been to over 20 countries during my time here.
