Matty Mitchell

Biography

Matty Mitchell (they/them) balances a multifaceted career as a music director, pit musician, accompanist, vocal coach, and mentor. Having trained in professional orchestras and chamber ensembles, Matty’s performance background covers a wide range of musical styles. They received their bachelors degree in music education from Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University) and their masters degree in music performance from New York University. They have studied with contemporary leaders in oboe performance (Matt Sullivan, Jonathan Blumenfeld, Nathan Hughes, Bert Lucarelli) and critically acclaimed jazz and classical pianists (Leah Claiborne, James Hillis, Andy Milne, Karina Bruk, Eric Albrecht).

Recent work spans NYC and Philadelphia markets, with credits at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, Carnegie Hall, and national broadcasts on NBC and ESPN. Matty has been celebrated for "aplomb playing" (Broadway World) and mindfully inclusive teaching approaches.

Matty enjoys work in professional theatre and loves any opportunity to collaborate with expansive artists. Matty can be found woodshedding new scores, practicing yoga, and expressing gratitude for loved ones.
