Maria Wirries

Biography

Maria is a BFA graduate of the musical theatre program at Penn State University as well as a powerhouse vocalist and songwriter. She was most recently seen in the Off-Broadway revival of Kinky Boots and the Broadway and touring productions of Dear Evan Hansen. At the same time, Maria served as the resident commission writer at Penn State, alongside Christian Thompson, composing a new musical for the 2023 graduating class entitled In-Gauged, which had its premier at Feinstein’s/54 Below. Another new musical of theirs, Iobairt, was accepted into the John Mercer Writer’s Grove at Goodspeed Musicals.

As a songwriter and solo artist, Maria has released an 8-track album and a 4-track EP, as well as several singles, all of which span a variety of styles and are just a small representation of her versatility as a singer, musician, and composer.

Maria is frequently called to lend her abilities to demos and premier performances of new works by composers and artists such as James Grant, Dick Hyman, Alex Rybeck, Sheridan Seyfried, Alexander Sage Oyen, Peter Kellogg, and Stephen Weiner. She has also participated in several developmental readings such as the Broadway revival of Once on this Island, Leap by Andrew Lippa, and The King’s Wife by Jamie Floyd and Melissa Annis.
