Biography

Makena Metz is an LA native who writes fantasy, sci-fi, and magical realism for the page, screen, and stage. She is getting her MFA in Creative Writing from Chapman University and is a proud member of DGA, ASCAP, and SCL. Makena’s 1 act musical revue Variations on a Theme (Park) (music by William Ah Sing and lyrics by Julia Koyfman and Makena Metz) just premiered digitally in the IAMT 1 Act Showcase and her short pandemic musical Threesome (music and lyrics by Joely Zuker and Makena Metz) was selected for the 2021 Virtual New York Equity Library Theatre Summer Festival. This past year, Makena’s song Listen to Me was picked for the 2021 Reverb Festival at Roundabout Theatre Company and her short musical Heavy Heart (music and lyrics by Angela Parrish and Makena Metz, book by Hannah C. Langley) was published in the literary magazine Fleas on the Dog, Volume 8. Additionally, her animated movie musical Alba and the Underworld (book and lyrics by Thomas Blakeley and Makena Metz and Music and Lyrics by Devin Weitz) was selected for a New Voices Project Merit Award from New Musicals Inc. Makena is an alum of the Institute for American Musical Theatre (IAMT) Creators Program and New Musical Inc’s CORE Curriculum for Musical Theatre Writing.
