Biography
MAIGA VIDAL is a Chilean-born, Los Angeles-raised musical theatre writer, playwright, translator and content creator. Her work aims to expand the portrayals and intricacies of the Latine experience within the American theatre canon with a focus on immigration, queerness, the Chilean diaspora, and the Spanish language.
She was recognized as one of the 100 up-and coming musical theatre writers by the ROOFTOP WRITER’S INITIATIVE created by Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway in collaboration with the Stephen Sondheim Foundation and the Jonathan Larson Grant. Vidal is also a member of the CANDELA PLAYWRIGHTS SUMMER FELLOWSHIP.
Selected works include CAFÉ CON LECHE (Book, Music & Lyrics; 2025 29-hour Reading with New York Theatre Barn; 2025 New American Theatre Festival with Phoenix Theatre, 2024 Staged Reading with Theatre on the Verge, 2023 4xLatine Production with Latine Musical Theatre Lab) and MISTRAL: A SPANISH-ENGLISH MUSICAL (Book, Lyrics and Translations; 2025 NYU GMTWP Table Reading & Cutting Room Showcase).
She holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University, Tisch and is a proud member of the Dramatist Guild, MAESTRA, RISE, and Theatre West in Los Angeles. Passionate about demystifying the musical theatre writing process, she's been sharing her journey of taking her musicals from page to stage online in her original YouTube vlog series, WRITING A MUSICAL!.
