Biography

Proficient also on electric cello, piano and baroque cello, fluent in French. Formerly Principal Cellist of Auckland Philharmonia and Charleston Symphony, Louise Dubin's current orchestral work is in NYC mainly. Recent Broadway chairs include the cello 1 chair of Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular Orchestra for 2022 and 2023, solo cello of Room on Broadway, solo cellist of Paramour on Broadway (Cirque de Soleil), and cellist on Harry Connick Jr.'s Cole Porter on Broadway. This year she's also playing cello on the Broadway shows Aladdin, Camelot and New York, New York. Her current classical orchestral work includes performances with the Baltimore Symphony, New Jersey Symphony and other groups. Chamber music appearances include BargeMusic, Norfolk, Savannah Festival performances with Daniel Hope, and Caramoor Festival performances with Reiko Uchida. She's toured the US with Stefon Harris’ African Tarantella Nonet and the Core Ensemble trio. She has performed solo recitals at VioloncellenSeine and Beauvais in France, and in spring 2023, she premiered Roger Stubblefield’s Divertissement for Cello and Orchestra in Queens, New York in March 2023. She's taught masterclasses at numerous universities including Sam Houston State, Grand Valley State, University of Connecticut, University of Virginia, and Wichita State.

Louise has been interviewed multiple times on radio shows including Classical Tracks (APR syndicate), Classical Classroom (NPR), WKCR-FM, and will be interviewed for the CelloSherpa podcast later this year. Her live performances have been featured on Performance Today (NPR) twice. Her debut Grammy-nominated album The Franchomme Project (Delos, 2015) has been acclaimed in publications in Canada, France, the UK, and the US. Strings Magazine calls the album a "rare musical treat" that "unfolds with radiant energy." The album was chosen by San Francisco’s KDFC-FM as a "Favorite of 2015," by Naxos as a "Best 2015 Release from Independent Labels," and continues to be heard on air worldwide. Her second album is forthcoming in 2024, with more world premiere recordings of French compositions ranging from Franchomme’s era up to the present day.
