Lillian Hearne

Biography

Lillian is a transdisciplinary performer, creator, theorist, and researcher, with a background in classical music, barbershop harmony, mathematics, and physics. Boasting many years’ experience singing in choirs and A Cappella quartets and playing in orchestras, big bands, and in jazz, hip hop, funk, fusion, soul, and post-rock bands, she debuted on the professional theatre stage playing the role of Mary in Darlinghurst Theatre Company's 2023 production of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, playing clarinet and bass clarinet, following this with a position as Assistant Musical Director in Hayes Theatre Co.'s multiple award winning 2023 production of A Little Night Music, playing clarinet and bass clarinet in the pit. Lillian currently works as a multi-instrumentalist (keyboard, saxophone, and clarinet), vocalist, and arranger for The Lancer Band. Her special interest is microtonal music, which forms the focus of much of her theory, research, and composition work. She completed her undergraduate studies in science, majoring in physics and applied mathematics, and in classical performance (clarinet), with first class honours in musicology at The University of Western Australia in 2015, and her PhD in the cognition of microtonal music at The MARCS Institute, Western Sydney University in 2020.
