Biography
Laura Pitner, based in Columbus, Ohio, has had a lifelong passion for performance. Laura currently holds the second oboe/English horn position with both the Ohio State University Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra (Columbus, OH) and plays in the undergraduate wind quintet. In the past, she has held principal oboe positions with the Westwood Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra (Austin, TX), and a second/English horn position with the Austin Youth Orchestra (Austin, TX).
Laura has attended and performed at the Carolyn Hove English Horn Masterclasses in Sacramento, California (English horn, 2024), the Montclair Broadway Institute in Montclair, New Jersey (voice, oboe, English horn, flute, 2024), the Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive Studio Intensive at the Warner Bros studios in Los Angeles, California (oboe, English horn, 2024 & 2025), the Prague Summer Nights Young Artists' Music Festival (oboe, 2025) and was recently a member of the LAFCI Intercollegiate Studio Orchestra in Los Angeles (oboe, English horn, 2025). Internationally, she has performed in England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Japan.
Laura is a student at The Ohio State University, majoring in music performance and minoring in Russian language with a hope of pursuing a performance career in pit orchestras and film scoring. She studies with Dr. Abby Yeakle Held, and spends her summers at orchestral festivals in the US and abroad. Laura is working diligently to improve her skills on other woodwind instruments.
