Biography

Born and raised in Barcelona, Laura Masferrer is a professional cellist currently living in New York City. As a world-class musician, she has performed with numerous renowned musicians at first-rate venues and internationally broadcasted festivals. Recently, she was on the international tour of “West Side Story,” directed by Lonny Price, as their principal cellist. Other musical theatre credits include “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Fun Home,” and “Spring Awakening,” among others. She has also worked as a cello substitute on the Off-Broadway show “Amid Falling Walls.”

Recently, Laura worked with the GRAMMY-winning conductor and producer Amy Andersson for a symphonic production and with the Grammy award-winning Alan Douches for some recording sessions.

In addition to her several musical theatre projects, she is also heavily involved in many classical orchestra projects, recording studio sessions, and participates in various modern musical projects. Her artistic career has led her to play in the best theatres and opera houses in the United States, Europe, and Asia, such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Alter Oper in Frankfurt, and Dubai Opera, among others.

Laura has also been part of the performances “Concerto a Tempo di Umore” and “Desconcerto” with the Orthemis Chamber Orchestra as a principal cellist. In 2021, they won two international Awards at YAMAwards (Lavrik, Norway) for their production “Desconcerto.”

She did most of her studies in her native country and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical and Contemporary Cello Interpretation from Liceu Conservatory (Barcelona) and a Master’s Degree in Cello Interpretation and Musical Investigation from Alfonso X el Sabio University (Madrid).

Laura also recorded several CDs and original soundtracks for internationally awarded Short Films such as “Flotando” (directed by Franki de Leonardis) and “Nubes” (directed by Edu Escudero).
