Biography

Lana Norris is a conductor, keyboardist, and educator based in New York City. Comfortable in styles ranging from sacred choral music to immersive cabaret, she specializes in Baroque music and has a special affinity for contemporary works.

Lana is Professor of Vocal Activities at Hunter College, where she conducts classical choral ensembles, Baroque historical performances, and the Hunter Opera Theater and Pocket Opera programs devoted to works by contemporary composers in musical theater and classical styles.

She is a Teaching Artist and Junior Board Member of Musica Sacra, the longest continuously performing professional chorus in New York City; staff musician at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine; and a regular guest conductor and performer with the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

She is the Associate Conductor of EMBER — Ember Choral Arts’ critically-acclaimed ensemble known for presenting compelling, socially relevant choral music of living composers — and the Ember Ablaze! Composer Lab coaching early-career composers. Lana is Ember's Singer Development Coach.

Lana has collaborated with Lincoln Center, PROTOTYPE, Columbia Teachers College, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and The American Opera Project to develop or premiere new works. She has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Park Avenue Armory, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Merkin Hall, St. Ignatius of Loyola, and The Kosciuszko Foundation.

She enjoyed working with Lincoln Center’s Search for Spring choral event for 1,000 community singers and Jeanine Tesori’s Blue presented in collaboration with The Metropolitan Opera.

Lana is a Staff Contributor to I CARE IF YOU LISTEN, the multimedia hub powered by American Composers Forum, and her music journalism is in the Library of Congress.
