Lana Norris

Biography

Lana Norris is a conductor, pianist, and educator based in New York City. Comfortable in styles ranging from sacred choral music to immersive cabaret, she specializes in contemporary works and has a special affinity for Baroque music.

She is the first-ever Associate Conductor of EMBER, the Ember Choral Arts’ critically-acclaimed ensemble, and the Ember Ablaze! Composer Lab with Composer-in-Residence Robert Paterson. She developed and leads a Choral Sight-Singing Workshop connecting singers across major NYC institutions to strengthen musicianship and community.

Lana is teaching faculty at Hunter College, where she conducts a choral ensemble and coaches their Opera Theater and Pocket Opera programs devoted to works by contemporary composers in musical theater and classical styles. She is a Teaching Artist with Musica Sacra, the longest continuously performing professional chorus in New York City; staff musician at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine; and a regular guest conductor with the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola. In addition to her work with Ember Choral Arts, Lana has collaborated with Lincoln Center, Columbia Teachers College, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and The American Opera Project to develop or premiere new works.

Lana is a Staff Contributor with I CARE IF YOU LISTEN, the multimedia hub powered by American Composers Forum, and her music journalism is in the Library of Congress. Lana is a proud member of the Maestra Music network.
