Kervy Delcy

Kervy Delcy

  • Biography

Ms. Delcy is a versatile composer, and musician. Born in Haiti and embarked on a creative journey that began at the early age of five. Initially drawn to acting, she immersed herself in local theater, laying the foundation for her future artistic pursuits. By age seven, she expanded her repertoire by participating in poetry, and singing competitions, showcasing her early passion for expressive arts. Ms. Delcy achieved first place in the poetry competition and secured second place in the singing competition.
Despite her early artistic inclinations, she initially dreamed of becoming a lawyer. However, a pivotal shift occurred at nine when she started waking up with song melodies lingering in her mind. Unaware of the origin of these creative impulses, she began to sing and play tunes that seemingly emerged from her dreams. Notably, the composition "Change Your Path" marked the beginning of her musical odyssey. When questioned about the composer, she admitted not knowing. A subsequent composition, "Nothing is Forever," further convinced her that these songs were born from her dream sleep. This revelation marked a transformative moment, redirecting her aspirations from law to a newfound passion for music.
In 2010, she joined the film production AJAPDECH (Association of Young Actors and Producers for the Development of Haitian Culture). Her involvement in the featured-length film "Amour et Contrainte" showcased her versatility, playing an antagonist and adding a dynamic layer to her acting repertoire.
The year 2012 marked a significant move to New York, where she pursued studies in performing arts at Rockland Community College. Following graduation, she transferred to the City College of New York, undertaking a double major in music and theater with a minor in creative writing. Her quest for musical knowledge led her to private studies with Professor Harry Stafylakis, focusing on music composition.
In 2017, she showcased her compositional talents by writing the libretto and the score for her first short musical, "Turning Tables." The following year brought further recognition when she secured the ASCAP: Louis Dreyfus Warner-Chappell City College scholarship, honoring the legacy of George and Ira Gershwin. The challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic became an opportunity for growth, prompting her to delve into the study of orchestration under the guidance of Marie-Jeanne Serero, the orchestration professor at the Conservatoire de Paris. In 2021, she took her passion for music composition to the next level by attending the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, graduating with an MFA in Media Scoring in June 2023.
Currently, Ms. Delcy is a fellowship composer with the American Opera Project for the 2023-2025 cycle of Composers & The Voice program. Her commitment to expanding her musical horizons led her to EAMA in Paris during the summer of 2023, where she studied with Dr. Philip Lasser. Continuing her mentorship journey, Ms. Delcy is a mentee of Dr. Lasser, a testament to her ongoing dedication to musical excellence and artistic growth.
Miss Delcy has been honored with the Tow International Research Grant Award from Brooklyn College for the summer of 2023. Additionally, she holds two Bronx Medals from the Global Music Award. Recognized for her academic excellence, she received the High Academic Achievement Award from The City College of New York in both 2018 and 2019. In 2015, Miss Delcy was presented with the Outstanding Student Award from Rockland Community College. Furthermore, she received a grant from the James and Nicole Cho Foundation in the same year.
