Biography
Kelsey Choi is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Percussion Performance at the New York University under the mentorship of world-renowned percussionists Eriko Daimo, James Saporito, and Jonathan Haas. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Toronto, and has studied under the tutelage of Aiyun Huang, Beverley Johnston, Charles Settle, and John Rudolph. Choi has received scholarships over the years including the Avedis Zildjian Percussion Scholarship, Arthur Plettner Scholarship, Andrew Alexander Kinghorn Scholarship in Music, Godfrey Ridout Scholarship, Jean A. Chalmers Scholarship, and Steinhardt Music Talent Scholarship. Choi is the Grand Prize winner of the Red Maple Concerto Competition, and has recently been selected as the winner of the UofT Hart House Orchestra Concerto Competition, and will be performing with the orchestra in March 2025.
Besides music, Kelsey was a selected member of the City Contemporary Dance Company’s Scholarship Programme, a recipient of the Chinese Dance Workshop Scholarship, and has achieved excellent results in international competitions, including champions at the IDO World Dance Cups and Gold at the Dance World Cup. Choi’s interest as a solo percussionist now lands on exploring the innovative collaboration of sounds between percussion and tap dancing.
