Biography

Katy Ray has had the privilege to be a member of the pit orchestra in Atlanta Lyric's Assassins, Georgia Ensemble Theatre's Secret Garden, City Springs Theatre's Into the Woods, Serenbe's Ragtime, and Buicenntennial's Parade. Ray has also been included in the pit in many school and community productions throughout Atlanta, including Les Miserables, Willy Wonka, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, and Mary Poppins.

Dr. Kathleen Ray has been an active freelancing performer and teacher in Georgia and
the Atlanta area since 2017. Dr. Ray currently serves as Adjunct Horn Instructor at the
University of West Georgia and Shorter University. She is an active freelancer and
currently serves as Principal horn of Rome Symphony Orchestra. She also regularly
performs with orchestras throughout the southeast, including Chattanooga Symphony &
Opera and Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Ray frequently plays with the Atlanta
Pops Orchestra, and has performed with Sutton Foster, Dennis DeYoung, Chloe
Agnew, John Driscoll Hopkins, Timothy Miller, and Balsam Range. She can also be
heard on recordings including Christmas with the Georgia Boy Choir (2018) and Ben
Bostick’s 2021 album Grown-Up Love.

Dr. Ray received her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Stony
Brook University where she studied with David Jolley and Ann Ellsworth. She received her Bachelor of Performance degree from Columbus State University, where she studied with Kristen Hansen. At CSU, Dr. Ray performed on recordings with the CSU Wind Ensemble, including Visions with Joseph Alessi and Synergy with John Bruce Yeh.

In addition to teaching at the college level, Dr. Ray teaches horn at The Westminster
School, Kennesaw Mountain High School, North Cobb High School, as well as several
middle schools around the metro Atlanta area.

When she has time off, Dr. Ray enjoys spending time with her significant other, Josh and her Boston terrier, Thorin. She is an avid baker and enjoys crocheting gifts for family and friends.
