  • She/Her
  • Biography

Kara Cutruzzula is a lyricist, librettist, playwright, and journalist. Her musicals include Letters From May (composer Kristoffer Bjarke), The Eyes of Vienna (composer Joshua Cerdenia), and Fever Dreams (composer Shoshana Shattenkirk and librettist Justin Schwartz). She is a lyricist in the BMI Musical Theatre Advanced Workshop, a member of the BMI Librettists Workshop, and also a member of the Dramatists Guild.

She writes intimate, small-cast, character- and dialogue-driven driven pieces that illuminate the human experience. They usually start off kinda funny, introduce a big idea, and end a little sad...but also hopeful! Her theatrical work has been presented at the Sound Bites Musical Festival 2022, Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Cherry Lane Theater, TADA!, Wild Project, and The Secret Theatre, with pieces developed by Nylon Fusion Theater Company, Primary Stages ESPA, Tulane University, and the New Musicals Lab at the Ferguson Center.

Her essays and writing have been featured in the New York Times, Newsweek, and The Daily Beast, among other venues. She writes a newsletter called Brass Ring Daily, about work, life, and creativity, and is the author of the motivational journal Do It For Yourself, and the upcoming book Do It Today (published 10.11.22).
