Biography
Joy Brown is a talented musician and nurse practitioner. Based in Brampton, Canada, she brings a rich blend of skills as a collaborative pianist, arranger, composer, producer, and Nurse Practitioner. With international touring experience alongside the Juno-award winning Toronto Mass Choir, she has also performed with notable artists such as Michael Burgess and Jackie Richardson.
Her theatre and opera credits include The Lion King Toronto 2024 production (musician/assistant music conductor), the World Premiere of "Aportia Chryptych: A Black Opera for Portia White" in June 2024 (musician) and the Canadian Regional Premiere of "The Color Purple" in 2019 (musician). Joy holds multiple degrees in music and nursing along with a Diploma in Jazz and Commercial Music from Humber College where she was honored with the Governor General’s Award. Additionally, she achieved an ARCT in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Joy is proud and thankful to be the first black female in the history of The Lion King to conduct the show!
