Isabel Hernandez-Cata
Biography
Isabel Hernández-Catá has served as vocal director, pit conductor, choreographer, and/or pit pianist for dozens of school and community musical productions. Outside of her day job, she composes, arranges, and leads jazz combos. She has been a choral director, jazz combo leader, and teacher of Piano & AP Music Theory in Maryland Public Schools since 2001. She completed undergraduate studies in music at University of Rochester and has Masters degrees in Music Education (Boston U) and Jazz Studies - Vocal Performance (U. of North Texas). Her choirs have performed for US Presidents 50 times. Performing highlights include recognition by DownBeat magazine for “Outstanding Performance by Graduate School Jazz Vocal Soloist”, and backing vocal stints for artists such as Al Green and Lionel Richie.
