Hallie S Malina
Biography
Hi! I am a playwright, lyricist, and dramaturg currently based in Philadelphia. Originally from upstate New York, my work explores themes of adolescence, sex, morality, and decay. My work has been described as “visually and emotionally poetic”, “distinctly feminine”, “important to here and now”, and “gross, but in a sexy way”.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude in May of 2022 with a degree in Directing, Playwriting, and Production from the University of the Arts. The past year has been especially exciting for me, as I wrote and co-composed an indie-rock musical, "buried", that was workshopped in the winter of 2021. Two months later, my play, "a little death", was produced in the 2022 Equinox New Play Festival. I, then, immediately jumped in to dramaturging "Crimson Lit: A Scarlet Letter Setlist", a new musical by Krista Knight and Jill Sobule that was produced in the 2022 Polyphone Festival of New and Emerging Musicals. I cannot wait to see what opportunities post-grad life holds for me and to continue to create new theatre that examines humanity in unique ways, inviting vulnerability in the rehearsal room and in performance, alike.
