Faith Taylor

Biography

I am a musical director, songwriter, composer, producer, performer and multi-instrumentalist. My main instruments are piano, voice, guitar and percussion. I have recently transitioned to theatre after many years as a touring and recording artist.

I am working on the fifth studio album of my own songwriting, and have fronted and managed bands for over fifteen years. As a musician I have toured the UK over ten times. I also have three European and one US tour under my belt. My festival credits include End Of The Road (UK), Indietracks (UK), Lemon Pop (Spain), Athens Popfest (USA) among many more. I have worked with legendary UK and US indiepop labels including Fortuna Pop, OddBox, Fika and Happy Happy Birthday To Me. London venue credits include The Scala, Oslo, MOTH Club, The Lexington. I am currently working on the fifth studio album of my own songwriting with alternative rock ensemble Athabaska. My existing records have been premiered and reviewed on platforms like Clash, DIY and The Quietus and my songs have had BBC Radio 6 airplay.

In 2023 I took on role as MD for 'Shutters: A Lesbian Rock Opera' (Clapham Omnibus). I performed as a pianist, singer and actor throughout the show as well as composed and arranged music for the company. Reviews described my work as 'gorgeous' and 'virtuosic'. My experience working on this production ushered in a professional pivot to theatre. I am now looking for more appointments and collaborations as MD.

As a result of my work on Shutters I have also been appointed as teacher of musical direction at London Media Academy. Beyond this role, I have been teaching piano privately and peripatetically since 2011.

I also have a PhD in Human Geography (QMUL) and have held Lectureships at Royal Holloway and Brunel, emphasising the use of creative, sonic research methods in ethnographically researching cities. My first degrees are in History and Gender Studies from Cambridge University.
