Biography

Faith Alessio Foster was born in Ann Arbor, MI and began playing viola in 6th grade, switching to violin in order to round out a string quartet with her siblings. She held the position of assistant conductor for the two orchestras at UNCC during her final year. After graduating with a B.M. in Violin Performance, she completed her M.M. in Orchestral Conducting at the University of South Carolina.

Ms. Foster has been a section violinist and violist in several orchestras across the country. She has also performed internationally as a chamber musician, performing with an experimental ensemble in England, Scotland and New Zealand. Professional conducting positions have included principal conductor of both the Columbia Community Orchestra and the Gaston String Orchestra, as well as the Repertory group of the SC Phil Youth Orchestras.

In 2021, she moved to Washington D.C. to complete a doctorate degree in orchestral conducting, leading public performances of many great works across genres, including the Sound of Music (musical theater), The Nutcracker (ballet) and La Boheme (opera), as well as serving as guest or assistant conductor for dozens of orchestral concerts.
