Biography

Emily's love for music crosses multiple genres, including pop, rock, jazz, and musical theatre. Raised on "a steady diet of 90's pop, Beatles, Disney movies and classic musicals", she earned a merit-based scholarship and studied briefly at Berklee College of Music, and then Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, earning a B.F.A. in Contemporary Music.

Simonian has been immersed in writing within the musical theatre genre, working closely with a dedicated team to bring her first musical, "When Two of Us Meet," to life. The two-act musical, inspired by her Armenian ancestors' exciting and turbulent emigration to America in the early 20th century, is anticipated to be workshopped in late 2024.

As a singer-songwriter, Emily penned two EPs under the professional name EMMY, and performed her original music nationwide. Simonian is currently enjoying playing live vocal and piano driven music at an array of venues, covering popular songs with custom loops & tracks to enliven the sonic experience and create a full-band sound.

In addition to writing music, Emily has a Masters Degree in Psychology. Her contributions to mental health conversations have reached a broad audience through media outlets like TIME magazine, The Washington Post, Huff Post, Newsweek, Healthline, Cosmopolitan, Instyle, and Women's Health. While in the mental health field, Simonian found her way back to writing, authoring a family therapy book titled, “The Essential Family Therapy Workbook", available at Barnes and Noble, Target, Amazon, and other online retailers.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Emily and her husband, Jake, maintain strong ties to Simonian's home state of California, frequently spending time there with family and friends. When she isn't traveling, writing, or performing, Emily loves to express herself creatively through fashion, and is an active volunteer at D.C. fashion nonprofit, Suited For Change. Simonian also gives back to her community by dedicating her time as a Theater Tour Greeter/Friend of The Kennedy Center.
