Emily Jean Howell

Biography

Emily Howell is a New York–based horn player and multi-disciplinary musician. A graduate of The Juilliard School, she studied with Erik Ralske and Eric Reed.

Emily has performed in world-renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Tianjin Juilliard School. Highlights include serving as principal horn for Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 at Carnegie Hall with the Juilliard Orchestra, her Zankel Hall debut in The New and the Now, featuring the premiere of an excerpt from a new opera by Nathalie Joachim, and appearances with the Riverside Symphony as principal horn. She has also performed with the North Carolina Symphony, the New World Symphony, and has appeared as a soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra.

Emily has participated in several major summer festivals, including Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen Music Festival (as a fellow), Hidden Valley Festival of Winds, and Napa Valley Blackburn Music Academy. In addition to her performance experience, Emily is an arranger, singer, and pianist. She enjoys creating multi-track pop, classical, and musical theater projects, and shares her work on Instagram (@emily__howell) and YouTube (@ejhowell2003).

As a teacher, Emily offers private French horn instruction to students of all ages and levels: from beginners in elementary school to advanced high school students and beyond. She brings the same enthusiasm and technical expertise to her teaching that she brings to her performance, aiming to inspire each student’s unique musical voice.

Outside of music, Emily is a long-distance runner and a musical theater enthusiast.
