Biography
Emielyn Das is a queer, Indian-American performer, composer, lyricist, and librettist based in New York City. A recent Cognitive Neuroscience graduate of UC Berkeley and of Writing & Design for Musical Theater from BerkleeNYC, she is primarily interested in how the medium of theater can unpack the human psyche, lift intersectional identities, and inspire change for marginalized communities. Her professional performing credits include originating the role of Aliya Chawla in Berkeley Rep’s production of Monsoon Wedding, Young Maya in the feature film The Valley, and Chandra in the Bengali movie Aparajita Tumi. As a singer-songwriter, she has released a first slew of singles, “Hoping Hopelessly,” “Normal”, and “Stay” on all streaming platforms and has performed all over the Bay Area, California. Currently, she is pursuing her main project, Seven Steps Around the Fire (with Harrison Lewis), a semi-autobiographical musical about a queer Indian-American woman who must break free from the generational cycle of Hindu arranged marriages, in order to be reunited with her true soulmate.
