Elizabeth Hilliard
She/Her
Biography
Elizabeth (Lizzy) Hilliard is a multi-hyphenate artist living in New York City and making music, theater and storytelling wherever and however she can. Sometimes that's a fifty second long video featuring a song about her workplace bathroom, sometimes that's an hour and fifteen minute long album about graduating college and trying to discern who you are and what your place is in the world. Lizzy loves to skate the line between quirky and sincere, imbuing the everyday with whimsical metaphors and evocative imagery. Her music hones an often soft and folksy sound, and frequently features a warm backdrop of guitars, strings and vocals.
Hilliard studied Music, Theater and English at Brandeis University, and this background influences her creative work. Though she grew up focused primarily in the musical theater world, today she also finds freedom and expression in making her own music, blending her passion for storytelling with her love for song. While at Brandeis, she began work on writing, producing and performing in her first full-length musical, The Pocket Girls, which features an original coming of age story, highlights female voices, and embraces a folk score. Since then, she’s begun work on a new musical about the postal service involving a murder mystery in a small town. Lizzy was the arranger for the 2025 Off Broadway production of Beyond Perfection. She has also enjoyed scoring several short films and podcasts, as well as writing choral commissions for groups such as the University of Washington Treble Singers.
Lizzy has played in a variety of spaces, from farmer's markets and local bars to venues like Bowery Electric to festivals like the Red Lodge Songwriters' Festival in Montana. Her song, 'if you were a worm', has over 2 million views on TikTok, and her song 'thumbelina' has over 450,000 streams on Spotify. In summer 2024, she embarked on her first tour. She has opened for artists including Philip Labes and Sofía Campoamor, and she has been featured on one of TikTok's official livestreams. She was a fellow of the Adirondacks Performing Arts Fellowship and theatrically, she has played roles including Jo March (Little Women), Learn Your Lessons Well soloist (Godspell) and Ida May Simon ([and maybe not then]).
