Loving life and music all day, Brooklyn based MD, pianist, keyboardist, vibraphonist, vocalist, session musician, arranger, and composer Brittany Anjou has 20 years experience freelancing and performing in jazz, theater, pop, rock, punk, world, Latin, African, and Arabic music in the NYC area. From 2013-2017 she music directed and organized the L.A.R.C.E.N.Y. Chamber Orchestra in an annual Tribute to Portishead, transcribing the the seminal trip-hop album 'Roseland NYC Live' herself to re-create it live at Le Poisson Rouge with turntables, strings, brass, vocals, synths and rhythm section. An avid sight-reader, teacher, as well as improviser, she helped build a jazz and Arabic youth music program at the opera house in Kuwait from 2018 - 2020, released and toured her critically acclaimed jazz trio and electronic original composition album 'Enamigo Reciprokataj / Reciprocal Love' in 2019.
As an artist and composer, she leads queer feminist punk band and sometimes jazz octet 'Bisexual Tyrant' as her alter ego, Bi TYRANT. She released and produced 'Nong Voru / Fake Love' - a duo album with Ghanaian xylophonist Alfred Kpebesaane in 2021. She holds an M.A. in Music Psychology from the University of Sheffield, (with a dissertation on the mental health of professional musicians in NYC), and a B.M. in Jazz Performance from NYU with concentrations in piano, vibraphone and Ghanaian xylophone. She has toured and recorded with The Shaggs, Jeremy Pelt, Elysian Fields, Sophie Auster, SAADI, and many others. She loves working with musicians, snowboarding, and walking in Prospect Park.
