Anamaría Willars

Biography

Anamaría Willars is a contemporary artist.  Actress, writer, singer-songwriter, and producer from Mexico based in Brooklyn, New York. Her love for storytelling and performance began at a young age by being curious about art as a means of understanding the world, connecting with others, and rediscovering humanity. A relationship that, like any other has gotten deeper and more complex.

Willars is interested in art that engages in sociopolitical dialogue and vulnerability which is told in Mexican folklore and explores community, love, and joy.  
She is excited about how performances and art as a space that creates communities and sews wounds. Willars is an artist because she wants to be where the mending is. This is what defines her art. The healing that takes place through performance. The love comes out of it and branches through all areas of life, making us feel alive and vibrant. The understanding of others ignites empathy. She strongly believes that humans are good by nature, we are just a little bit lost, and even in our darkest moments, we all seek love and connection. Through art, she has found herself in others. Found love in hostile places. And realized that we are the answer and wants to give back like it was given to her.
