Biography
Ana Barreiro is a drummer, composer, and educator active in the Los Angeles music scene with a musical style that reflects her Brazilian roots and American music influences. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Drum Performance by Berklee College of Music and a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies by the University of Southern California.
She has worked backing up artists in various styles such as Rodrigo Amarante, Thalma de Freitas, Catina deLuna and Lado B Brazilian Project, Otmaro Ruiz, Andrea Motis, Patrice Rushen, Haywood, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Helado Negro, Disclosure, Pasquale Grasso, Emily Brimlow.
Barreiro was the drummer for the McCoy Rigby Entertainment's production of "Cabaret" and “In The Heights” at the La Mirada Theater.
In early 2020 Barreiro was commissioned to write three solo drum-set pieces for the "American Contemporary Ballet"; Variations I, II and III and performed with the company to great reviews. In 2022 she was commissioned to write a drumline piece for another of the company’s shows: “Homecoming”. The piece is being performed again in their 2023 season and is set to be part of the program for years to follow.
Notable past performances include the Monterey Jazz Festival, Stanford Jazz Festival, Coachella, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Zildian Day São Paulo, DC Jazz Festival, Washington Women in Jazz Festival, Filoli Jazz Festival, Jazz at LACMA, Jazz on the Latin Side.
