Biography
AMY ENGELHARDT wrote the score for BASTARD JONES, nominated for the Off-Broadway Alliance’s Best New Musical Award and an O'Neill/Richard Rodgers Award Finalist, developed with a NAMT Writers’ Residency Grant at the Millikin New Musicals Workshop. Other credits include TRIPTYCH (book/music/lyrics, New York Transit Museum), ANNIE DREAM WILL DO (book/music/lyrics, Prospect Theatre Musical Writers Lab), lyrics for commissioned adaptations of Carl Sagan's CONTACT (2009 Puget Sound Theatre Award), NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, TESLA (New Musicals Foundation) and music/lyrics for A COMEDY OF ERAS (with the Flying Karamazov Brothers). Amy received the Burman Award for Songwriting from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets (MAC) and co-Created TUNE IN TIME, New York’s Musical Theater Game Show (York Theatre 2014-2016). Her solo one-act play IMPACT, developed at the National Winter Playwrights Retreat (CO), streamed on demand in 2021 (the cell NYC/Playhouse at White Lake) and premiered at Emerging Artists Theatre's New Works Festival in fall 2022. It heads to the Edinburgh Fringe in summer 2023. Guest appearances/writing features: In The Works (The Duplex), Broadway Sessions, Broadway Celebrates New Musical Theater (54 Below/Feinstein’s), Winter Rhythms (Urban Stages), Mostly Musicals (Los Angeles), ASCAP/A Little New Music (Los Angeles), Birdland, Don’t Tell Mama, 53 Above, Iridium, The Triad/Stage 72, the Met Room. Current projects include A COLLECTIBLE SENSATION (music/lyrics) with Arianna Rose (book/lyrics), an O'Neill semi-finalist. During the holidays, Amy tours with Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, This is Spinal Tap) and Judith Owen in CHRISTMAS WITHOUT TEARS. From 1998-2012, Amy recorded 4 albums and toured the US and Europe as a vocalist/writer/arranger for Grammy-nominated, genre-busting vocal band The Bobs. She is the only honorary female member of the Vienna Boys Choir and a resident artist at the cell theatre in NYC.
