Biography

Currently: Hadestown National Tour sub (violin)

Allie Taylor has 20+ years of experience playing violin, singing, writing, and performing across a wide range of genres, including Classical music, musical theatre, improvised music, blues, pop, rock, and country.

Allie Taylor is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, where she earned a Masters of Music in Violin Performance, a Masters of Music in Improvisation, and a Masters of Music in Chamber Music. She also received a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies. Allie currently studies with David Halen, Concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony.

Recent performances include playing with the 1st National Tour of HADESTOWN, playing the Bach Double Violin Concerto alongside world-renowned violinist Midori, and soloing with the Count Basie Orchestra in Chicago, IL. Allie is a substitute violinist with the New World Symphony, and plays with a number of regional orchestras in the Midwest, including the Lansing Symphony, the Battle Creek Symphony, and the Chicago Pops Orchestra.

Throughout her time at University of Michigan, Allie played in a number of pits for productions by the Musical Theatre department and the Classical Voice/Opera department, as well as theatrical video productions.

Allie is a 3-time DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award winner (in the Jazz Vocal and Pop/Rock/Blues categories), a 2-time semifinalist in the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative Competition, the first place winner of the Allegro Society Instrumental Scholarship Competition, and has performed internationally, from London to India (where she studied Carnatic violin).

Recent composition projects include a two-act comedic musical, Diseducated, co-written with Sammy Sussman and The Bachelor: The Musical: A Video, a multi-episode Instagram-based musical written with Sammy Sussman during quarantine this past year.

Allie is an excellent reader of music, and welcomes any musical challenge.
