We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Composer for the World Premiere of Primordial an original documentary theatre production entirely about pregnancy and childbirth; created by playwright Lillian Isabella and directed by Meghan Finn, in collaboration with director/choreographer Leslie Galán Guyton. The Tank will premiere this play as a Core Production in February 2024.
Primordial weaves together diverse perspectives, and different race, age, and gender experiences, into overlapping stories that amplify one another. The play deals with pregnancy, childbirth, patient advocacy, maternal health, birth without violence, birth equity, and other related topics.
This piece celebrates this innate connection we all share and encourages the audience to talk more openly about it.
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Composer to create both pre-recorded and live music and soundscape compositions that are heavy on percussion and vocal harmonies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in composing original music and soundscapes for percussive instruments, as well as familiarity with composing for vocal harmonies and string instruments, and be capable of working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to meet tight production timelines. This role will play a pivotal part in enhancing the overall theatrical experience and contributing to the play's success.
Music Composition: Create an original soundscape to accompany the play, adding depth and emotion to the narrative.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the director, production team, and musicians in the cast to ensure that the composition seamlessly integrates with the overall vision of the play.
Rehearsal and Performance Support: Work closely with the choreographer and director to tailor the composition to the dance and text demands of the play. Attend rehearsals and early performances to provide guidance to performers and make necessary adjustments to the compositions, as needed, to ensure a high-quality performance.
Timely Delivery: Work efficiently to meet the timeline associated with the production and make revisions as required during the creative process.
Proven Percussive and Vocal Harmony Composition Experience: Demonstrated experience in composing music with percussion instruments and vocal harmonies, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
Creative Problem-Solving: Strong creative and artistic skills, with the ability to develop unique compositions that enhance the play's narrative.
Adaptability: Willingness to adapt compositions as needed to accommodate different scenes, moods, and directorial input.
