Is it possible to teach people who “can’t sing” to match pitch correctly? (Yes!) Is there such a thing as “tone deaf”? Is it a hearing issue? Or is there something else involved? Beth Falcone is a singing voice specialist who has specialized in theater singing for almost thirty years. Her students have performed on Broadway, off Broadway, nationally and internationally, but her greatest joy as a teacher has been empowering those amazing human beings who began their lessons believing they were “tone deaf.” This method, based on science and sound educational principles, has been demonstrated at the Voice Foundation, Pan American Vocology Association and in workshops at colleges and universities around the country. Numerous teachers have successfully adopted it into their practices, and there is a research study in conjunction with Dr. Monica McHenry (New York Medical College) in progress. In almost three decades, she has yet to find someone that could not match pitch and accomplish their desire to sing, or “sping” a song, because: “Life’s a Pitch, and then you Sping!”
