Biography
Gretchen Amstutz has been the conductor and musical director for over 30 musical productions in the Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque New Mexico areas. “Carousel” marked her first musical direction for Los Alamos Light Opera with the most recent productions being “Guys and Dolls”, “The Addams Family” and “Matilda” with LALO , “The Mikado”, with the Adobe Theater and "Fun Home" and a "Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder", with the Santa Fe Playhouse.
She holds a Bachelor of Music (Honors) from the University of Utah where she studied with Christian Tiemeyer, conductor of the Dallas and Iowa City Symphonies, and Jay E. Welch and Jerold Ottley, both conductors of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, in addition to being a music educator in the Los Alamos Public School system for 13 years.
Her most recent endeavor will be musical director for the Santa Fe Playhouse’s production of "Sunday in the Park with George" in the summer of 2024.
