Yu Okuda

Biography

Yu OKUDA is a Tokyo based Composer, Arranger, Music Director, Bandleader, and Pianist who mainly composes for theatre. She is the Founder and President of Musical Theatre Writers Japan .
Currently undergoing a one-year internship as an international intern at Maestra.

She has been selected as a Fellow for the "U.S.-Japan Creative Artists Fellowship Program 2023" by Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission and a Fellowship for the "Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists 2023" by Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.

Some of her Composer credits include:
Avidya: No Lights Inn which won Japan Cultural Affairs Agency Arts Festival Excellence Award in 2016, commissioned by Niwa Gekidan Penino. It was performed in Japan, Germany, the US, Nederland, Denmark, Australia and France.
Wataru’s innocent marriage hunting the Musical which commissioned by Umeda Arts Theater Co.,Ltd.
Octopus Monks: Ritual of Forgetting which commissioned by Niwagekidan Penino.
Rhapsody on Kumamoto folksongs “Yoheho-bushi” and “The Lullaby of Itsuki” for violin and shamisen which commissioned by NIPPON STEEL Arts Foundation.
A New Musical Comedy ”Tukuri-Banashi” which commissioned by hicopro.
Musical Reading Drama “On the Zattere” Self-Produced, Co-Written with Ayumi OKADA
