Yi Yun Soo
Biography
I am passionate and experienced in working with young people from diverse backgrounds. In Malaysia, I co-founded and trained a Myanmar refugee choir, including mentoring two student conductors for succession planning. I guided a children’s choir from a socially disadvantaged background and directed a performance with them. In Oxford, I rehearsed with the county youth orchestra, co-directed a student-led musical, and mentored children with autism at Turtle Key Arts. During my short time in Cardiff, I cultivated a learning and development platform for first- and second- year students and emerging composers in a repertoire orchestra.
I am unafraid to take on new challenges and to lead changes. Given the challenge of curating a virtual festival concert involving over 100 young musicians, I designed the storyboard and did the voiceovers for the video with The Rondo Production, a Malaysian classical music social enterprise. In the face of Covid-19 lockdown extension, I supported my team in facilitating logistics while adapting our music festival to digital platform, ensuring smooth simultaneous running of multiple 1-to-1 lessons and workshops across multiple Zoom sessions. Highly organised and efficient, I delivered these tasks on top of my responsibilities as Marketing Manager for all digital productions.
