  • Biography

    Bulgarian-born, New York based versatile harpist Tomina Parvanova Lyden is one of the most in demand musicians in her field. Currently, the harpist of Sweeney Todd on Broadway, she has won the principal harp chair of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Orchestra for four seasons and has appeared with such world-class orchestras as Boston Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, The Baltimore Symphony, and the Boston Ballet to name a few. Other Broadway credits include: Soft Power (Original cast recording GRAMMY NOMINEE), We Are Only Alive For A Short Amount Of Time, as well as substitute musician for Tony-winning shows Paradise Square, Carousel (starring Renée Fleming) and Hello, Dolly! (starring Bette Midler). As a soloist, Tomina has performed with New York Repertory Orchestra, Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra (Bulgaria) and The Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble. Awards include first prize at the Bulgarian International Music Competition “Young Virtuoso”, and second place at the USA International Music Competition (Boston, MA). She is also a two-time winner of the American Harp Society Boston Chapter "Ann Hobson Pilot Scholarship" (2010, 2011). In 2011, Tomina was a harp fellow at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center where she performed under the baton of world-renowned conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Kurt Masur and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. She has premiered works by some of America's most celebrated composers, including Charles Wourinen, Gunther Schuller, Aaron Jay Kernis, Martin Boykan, George Tsontakis, and has performed with new music groups such as Random Access Music - RAM, Boston Modern Orchestra Project - BMOP and Sound Icon. A passionate educator, Tomina has served as Adjunct faculty at The Boston Conservatory and as Harp Teaching Assistant for Undergraduate Minor Students at Boston University. She has also been invited to teach courses and masterclasses worldwide. She served as faculty at Long Island City Academy of Music and has maintained a private teaching studio for over 15 years. Under a full tuition scholarship, Tomina received her Master's Degree from Boston University - College of Fine Arts and Bachelor's Degree from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee
