Biography

Sarah Hammond is a playwright, bookwriter, and lyricist. Sarah was a resident playwright at New Dramatists and recently won the Kleban Award for Most Promising Lyricist. Her work includes Green Girl (SPF ’08 at The Public), House on Stilts (South Coast Rep Commission), Kudzu (Trustus), and also the book for String (Richard Rodgers Award, Village Theatre World-Premiere March 2018) written with Adam Gwon. Her short play "Hum of the Arctic" won the Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Heideman Award and her short musical "Jack + Jill" written with Emily Goldman won the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Festival. With composer Will Aronson, she wrote the book and lyrics for Theatreworks USA's Pete the Cat (Lucille Lortel Theatre, four national tours). Her current musical projects are Wind-Up Girl with Will Aronson (Ars Nova Uncharted) and a commission for EST Sloan. Sarah grew up in Hong Kong, Belgium, and South Carolina. She holds an MFA in playwriting from the University of Iowa, another MFA in musical theatre writing from NYU, and a BA in English from the University of South Carolina.
