Biography

An opera singer in a former life, Natalie’s flair for the dramatic was a natural entree into writing plays and musicals. Inspired by characters and stories that make us question what we know to be true, Natalie’s works feature unexpected protagonists: a pre-menopausal woman who discovers she’s a werecat; a 20-something woman with a fatal brain tumor offered immortality - with a catch; an integrated troupe of women jazz musicians defying Jim Crow laws in the 1940s.

For her musical projects, Natalie collaborates with Kat Sherrell as “Nat & Kat”. Their newest project, (UN)SUNG: A NEW MUSICAL, had two development workshops in the summer of 2019: at Circle in the Square Theater School in June and at New York Film Academy in August. Nat & Kat’s musical SWEETHEARTS OF SWING (now being pitched for television) received grants in 2017 from both NAMT and the Rockefeller Brother’s Fund for a residency through The Lark, and previously had staged readings in NYC and at the Aurora Fox Theater in Colorado.
Natalie’s solo full-length works include THE INNKEEPER (now being developed as a screenplay), BREAKING PAIRS, and THE TAMING OF CATS, which received glowing reviews as a Resident Artist Production at The Brick Theater in NYC in 2016. Natalie also has four short works published by Indie Theater Now, and numerous short plays have been produced across the country and in Montreal.

In addition to creating new theater for new audiences, Natalie also trains the next generation of performers. In over 20 years of teaching, both privately and at colleges and universities, she has taught vocal technique, sight-singing/ear-training, music theory, and music history. Her professional voice students perform on Broadway, Off- Broadway, on National Tours, and at regional theaters across the country. Passionate about mentoring youngsters, she has successfully prepared numerous students for acceptance into the Professional Performing Arts School and LaGuardia High School.
